                                                       Increase of Childhood Mental Issues

Children who are obese have serious emotional and mental issues throughout their life as a child. They tend to have low self esteem and may feel inferior than most students in school. Many of their friends may start to be apart from the obese child. This can be serious if the child starts to have emotional issues like depression. Children who are obese may feel like they do not fit in a group, or the group may not think he is good enough to be in there with them. All this may cause the child to have suicidal thoughts. He may be thinking negative about himself, he even my cut himself because of his overweight. Based on the article "Obesity can be harmful to your child's mental health", it talks about how being obese can affect the thinking of a child. It admits, " The study also reported that obese boys and girls with low self-esteem had higher rates of loneliness, sadness and nervousness." This is one way that the child can be emotionally sad.
Children who feels depression because of their over weight have low self esteem, or is being bullied by others, and have low grades in school. Many end up committing suicide. In the article of "Obesity can be harmful to your child's health", it admits, “The study found that 26 percent of teens who were teased at school and home reported they had considered suicide, and 9 percent had attempted it. Suicide is the third leading cause of death among adolescents. (Source: Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, "Associations of Weight-Based Teasing and Emotional Well-being Among Adolescents," August 2003)".
The child may start isolating himself or herself because of his or her overweight. Children with this type of mental issue may start hurting himself or others. They may not be very active in activities with other children.
Children with these types of mental issues may feel that they are fat, when they are not. This affects there thinking, and can bring suicidal thoughts. Not all teens and children that are obese only have emotional issues, but children that eat unhealthy have a hard time concentrating on their work. They do not eat nutritional food that can help them stay focus in there school. They may feel depressed or angry. They can feel anxious and may have problems of self control. The child may think that everyone is against him or her, this can affect the child in a long term period. In the article of "Mental Health, Wellness, and Childhood Overweight/Obesity", it describes the percentage of behaviors because of overweight. The article admits, "Unhealthy weight control behaviours were reported by 57% of girls and 33% of boys, and extremely unhealthy behaviours were reported by 12% girls and 5% of boys among 4,476 adolescents in public schools in Minnesota []."  Here are seen the percentage of boys and girls that have an unhealthy behavior because of there unhealthy weight.
More children are having mental issues than in the past because of there own weight. More children and adolescents are thinking about suicide. There are many more ways that this can be looked at. The child could have mental disorders. They may not be able to think straight, this is one way we can see how obesity is affecting their mental mind. They may think that they are going to be always obese and that they cannot fit anywhere in the group in school or in sports. Parents should be aware of these signs at all time. Talking with the child's teacher can help parents know if their child is at risk of hurting himself or others.

Should Parents Be Charged With Child Obesity if their child is overweight?

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 Rodriguez 2

Should Parents Be charge with Child abuse if they have an obese child?

Parents play a big role in their child's health. Today we are seeing more children and teens being overweight. More children today have serious health issues with their body mass and are obese because of what they eat at home and at school. Many parents do not realize what harm they are doing to their child's health. Parents have a huge responsibility on their child's health. Based on the article "Childhood Obesity and Medical Neglect", parents are responsible for their child's health. The article states, "
Parents are responsible for the care of their children, regardless of whether the cause of a medical condition is a behavior, a disease, or an interaction of the 2." Many parents may give their child fat foods like ice-scream and pizza. Parents should realize that it is fine to give them pizza once in a while, but it is not fine to give them pizza every day.

There are many more reasons for why parents should be responsible for the health of their child. One of the ways are that parents know what foods is nutritional to eat and decides not to buy it for their child and themselves, they decide to buy what is not nutritional like hot dogs and pizza knowing that their child is obese, then that would be consider child abuse.

If starving a child is consider child abuse, then why should overfeeding their child not be an abuse to his or her child? Based on the article "Parents of Obese Children and Charges of Child Abuse", the article admits,"
In other words, if a parent who endangers a child's health by starving her or him can be charged with abuse, why should a parent who endangers a child's health by over-feeding her or him not also be subject to these charges? "

If a parent knows that their child is overweight or obese and do nothing to help him loss weight, then this would be considered a way of the child abuse. If the parents do nothing to help the child, then they would be fine by up to $800 according to BBC, "If food is the problem, it would be up to parents to set a diet and exercise programme, with monthly visits by officials to make sure it's being kept up. After six months, they would examine the child again. Parents would face fines of up to $800 (£525) if there was no improvement within a year."

This can be very controversial in different countries like Puerto Rico. Poor countries may not have the money to buy enough nutritional foods. Because of their economy as a family or as a parent, they may not always have the money to buy good nutritional foods. Based on the article "Could fining parents cut childhood obesity" , it admits, " But the Puerto Rico obesity plan has echoes of the action taken in the UK and elsewhere to combat persistent truancy from school. In March last year, it was revealed that a record number of truancy fines had been handed to parents but that persistent truancy was falling. But there has been criticism that there is no link and that fines do not work. Some critics believe fines disproportionately affect poor parents."

In many countries were economy is low for parents, it is not always the parents fault. Parents try to give their child a place to live and a place to eat were they have to survive to keep their family in good standing. This can be seen in Puerto Rico and not only Puerto Rico but also Mexico and Africa. Economics have a big role in these types of countries. People have to survive, families have to survive. For the low economy that he or she has, they tend to buy cheap foods that have a lot of cholesterol and sugar. Parents know what is good for their child, parents that do not have the problem of economy, and buys fat foods knowing that their child is obese, should be charge with child neglect.

I agree that parents are also responsible on the child's weight. The child's health is important, no child should pass through this situation. Good eating habits are beneficial to the child's health. A good exercise everyday can help the child maintain healthy. Eating too much fast foods can be harmful. It can lead to diabetes, strokes, high cholesterol, and mental disorder. In conclusion, parents have the major responsibility on the child's health.

                                                          Childhood obesity

Child obesity has been around for a long time. From drinking soda, to eating chips, and many other fat foods.FRAGMENT Obesity is now a global pandemic issue. Understanding the risk factors that this has can prevent people from becoming obese.
So what is obesity? Obesity is stored fats in the body. Many times because of bad eating habits, malnutrition, lack of exercise, and genes. The most common factor in finding obesity are in family members. Family members have similar eating habits. This also can cause the child to eat the same way as their family members. According to scientist they admitted, “poor sleeping patterns whether it is too much or too little sleep can lead to hormonal changes and an increase in appetite”.SOURCE
There are other risk factors to consider when having obesity like heart disease in young children and teens. This may also harm the blood vessel system and is a major cause of gallstones, osteoarthritis and respiratory problems.
Over the years, we have seen people overweight. This is not only a health issue but also an economic issue. People are buying more fast foods and less nutritional foods. This is causing for our children to have problems at school and medical issues along the way. In 1985 there was 20% obesity rate from ages 14 to 19 years old. Over time this has increased dramatically. In 2008 there was an increase of obesity of 25% to 35% in children and adolescents. This is still increasing over time. This is a very alarming rate. More of our children are overweight.SOURCE?
So how can we stop obesity? There are many ways to help prevent obesity, one of them ways are to eat healthier. Eating good nutrition can fight obesity. Eating good vegetables can help children and adolescents lose weight. Being physically active can prevent early childhood obesity. Some ways to be active can be by playing sports like soccer or basketball. Exercising the body is a good way to keep healthy. Running is a very good way to prevent children from having obesity. That is not the only ways to fight obesity, going to the gym is a good way for children and adolescents to be fit. Cutting down on junk food can really help them lose a few pounds. Having a good night sleep can prevent some of these problems.
What is important to know is that your child do not have to deal with this problem. Choosing a good healthy lifestyle can prevent your child from becoming obese. Cutting down on fat foods can help your child from having these issues along the way. Daily exercise can help your child from having any of these issues. Families can have a healthier eating style. Children see what their family members do, they tend to do the same things sometimes. There are many ways to prevent early childhood obesity, by doing these things everyday can cut down a lot of fat.
60 minutes of outside activities can help children lose some extra weight off them. Outside activities with other children is a healthy way to prevent them from having obesity. Buying fewer soft-drinks and high calorie foods can really cut down some fat. Choosing a healthy lifestyle can help your child from becoming obese. Eating the right foods can be good for your child's body and mind. Exercising everyday is a good way to prevent these health issues. If your child is obese, there is still hope. By doing these daily activities and eating healthy can cut down on some fat. Run every day at least an hour of activity outside can help you lose the extra pounds that your child do not need.
Working out every day can help your child to have a healthy lifestyle, having a gym membership and working out there can help you and your child lose some extra weight.

Should parents be charged with child abuse if the parents have an obese child? Based on "Parents of

Obese Children and Charges of Child Abuse", the parents have a responsibility to protect their child

from harm and abuse. If the parent fails to protect their child from becoming obese and fails to address

his or her medical issue, the state can intervene through their child abuse laws as stated in this article,

"The rationale for invoking child abuse laws for severely obese children is that the child faces imminent

health risks and the parent has repeatedly failed to address these medical problems, thus meeting the

definition for mandatory child abuse reporting "(Murtagh & Ludwig, 2011). This can lead to sever mental

 issues and emotional issues.

So how can child obesity affect the mental health of a child or their emotions? There are many ways

that a child can be affected. The child may be bullied at school by the way he or she looks. This could

lead the child to eat less or eat more unhealthy foods. The child could commit suicide because of the

way he or she looks and the way other students at school make him or her feel. The foods that the child

eats may not be the right nutrition that he or she needs. He or she may have a hard time concentrating

at school and this is by the malnutrition that their parents provide to their child.

Child obesity can lead to severe health issues. The child may have a hard time breathing. The

possibilities for the child to have a stroke increases by 30% to 40%, this is according to researchers,

"Children who are dangerously overweight may already have a 30%-40% higher chance of

either suffering a stroke or developing heart disease in later life, Oxford University

researchers found. " The risks here are higher if the child is obese at early age. This can

affect the way they function as a person and the way they think.

Children who are obese are most likely to have emotional issues. This can lead to low self esteem and

poor self image. The child may feel that he or she cannot be the same as the other students in school.

The child may be going through bulling at school and may feel embarrassed to talk about the

situation in school. All this can lead to suicide if these signs of emotions are not detected in time.

Parents and teachers should be aware of these signs and emotional disorder that their child may have.

It is important that parents and teachers can help him or her overcome these obstacles through good

nutrition. Eating healthy and having good nutrition can be the difference between being obese or

having a healthy lifestyle.
